Travel North across Auckland's Harbour Bridge and arrive at Matakohe and the fascinating Kauri Museum.  This award-winning museum pays tribute to the early pioneers and their use of the Kauri gum.  Continue to the Waipoua Forest and meet your Maori guide for a Footprints in the Forest tour.  You will meet the 2000 yr old Tane Mahuta, said to be the largest Kauri gum in New Zealand.  Travel north to the Opononi Pub and meet the locals for a drink (first drink on us!) before arriving at your waterfront hotel.  Tonight you will enjoy a mouth watering Crayfish Dinner, caught locally (other meal options available).

1: Kauri Museum
The award-winning Kauri Museum is a fascniating place, rich in history and nostalgia.  Learn about the early pioneering days through the use of kauri timber and gum and wander through the largest collection of antique kauri furniture. It features a working timber mill and replica boarding house, school and post office.
 
2: Footprints in the Forest
The Footprints in the Forest journey begins with a Maori prayer and blessing, after which you will enter and leave your footprints in this huge Kauri forest.  Meet Tane Mahuta - Lord of the Forest, over 2000 years old and said to be the larget kauri gum in New Zealand.  Enjoy the myths & legends that are both intruiging and entertaining.
 
3: Crayfish Dinner
Crayfish lover's delight!  Your stay at the Copthorne Hokianga includes a mouth-watering crayfish dinner. This region is known for the fresh seafood caught locally, however other meal options are available for non-seafood lovers!
