Today you will visit the Otago Peninsula headland. You have the opportunity to visit either Larnach Castle or Natures Wonders. Morning tea is available (own cost) at both destinations.
Larnach Castle is New Zealand’s only castle and is renowned for it’s gardens of international significance. Stroll through the magnificent gardens and take a guided tour of the castle’s interior. With its exciting, sometimes scandalous and tragic history, magnificent carved ceilings, antiques and breathtaking views, Larnach Castle is one of New Zealand's most visited attractions.
Nature lovers may prefer to visit Natures Wonders, a working farm where you will get up close and personal with the wildlife that inhabit this property. The Otago Peninsula Headland is arguably the most precious wildlife habitat in New Zealand and the farm owned by the Reid family is right on the forefront of this headland. Board the Argo 8 Wheel Transport, an exciting but smooth ride that will take you to seals, penguins, nesting seabirds and spectacular views.
Time to depart and continue through the Taieri Valley and farmlands of Southland to Te Anau and your hotel. You are in the centre of town and have time to explore the country style shopping. Assemble at the Fiordland Theatre a short walk from your hotel, where you will watch the movie “Ata Whenua…The Shadowlands”, a very special short film and one which will set the scene for tomorrow.
